A Nevada resident was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon following a vehicle pursuit
with Sheriff’s Deputies. According to Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher, a detective
with the Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a vehicle on North Washington Street in
Nevada after it had been reported stolen when the vehicle failed to stop. The vehicle
continued to flee North of Nevada and onto I-49 where other units responded to assist.
Deputies deployed stop-sticks near the Compton Junction exit in an attempt to stop the
vehicle. The vehicle attempted to swerve around the stop-sticks and slid into the ditch
where he was taken into custody without incident. Mosher said the driver who has been
identified as 61-year-old Larry Coker of Nevada hit an exit sign with the vehicle but no
major damage was done to the vehicle and no injuries occurred.
Coker has been charged with Tampering with Motor Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and
Driving while Revoked. He is being held at the Vernon County Jail on a $25,000 cash
only bond.
