Everyone is invited to come out and meet the fall Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs and coaches 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26 at in the HS Gym. There is no admission but if you would like to support the teams, please bring a pack of 12 oz. Gatorade, Powerade or water. All HS and JH Football, Volleyball, and Cheerleaders will be announced! This will be followed by a HS Volleyball Scrimmage.
The Annual Labor Day Picnic at Immaculate Conception Parish (606 Kansas Ave., Montrose) will be held on Monday, September 6. For the health and safety of visitors and workers, they will not be able to offer family-style dine-in meal in the school basement, but will offer two other options for enjoying a great chicken dinner. New this year will be a drive-thru car side delivery option in addition to the carry-out option with outdoor tent seating available. Come join in for a great tasting fried chicken dinner served from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. The menu includes fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, green beans, slaw, bread & butter pickles, and homemade pie. All this is only $12 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. There is a huge country store open from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. There will also be corn hole, dunk tank and bingo open at 11:00 a.m. A homemade pie auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the cash and quilt raffles.
Children ages 0-5 are invited to attend Story Hour at the AC Public Library beginning September 9. They meet on Thursday mornings at 11:00 a.m. They have story time, a craft, and a snack. Learning to love books is essential to learning to read plus your children learn social skills and motor skills. Come join the fun.
The Appleton City Public Library is seeking a librarian. Hours of operation would be Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon. Applications can be picked up at the library during normal business hours and will be accepted through September 7, 2021. St. Clair Co Health Department reports 1017 positive cases and 23 deaths as of August 24, 2021 in the county. There are 90 positive cases in St. Clair Co and 22 positive cases in Appleton City since July 25, 2021. More information is available at http://www.scchcmo.net/covid-2.html.
DbarJ Quilts etc., Rockville MO, is having a drawing for a patriotic quilt to be given to a veteran on Veteran’s Day. Any veteran can add their name, or have someone add your name to the drawing. There is no cost to have your name in the drawing, as you have already paid the price. Just come to the quilt shop and sign your name and a phone number where you can be reached, or give the information to Marge Zink. If you know a veteran, let them know about this.
The Montrose Class of 2024 is sponsoring a benefit whole hog raffle for Keon Engeman. They are selling raffle tickets for a whole hog plus the cost of processing. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. The hog is from the Henzlik Family Farm and the cost of processing is paid for by donations from families of the Montrose Class of 2024. If you win, you will be contacted via telephone. The drawing is September 1, 2021 and the pig will be delivered to processor at the beginning of September. All proceeds for this raffle will go directly to Keon Engeman for medical expenses. Truman Lake Community Foundation, Inc. announces their Fall 2021 Grant Application cycle opens on August 1, 2021.
