The large item dumpsters will be out at the City Barn September 28 – 30, 2021.  There is one for electronics and then another for other acceptable items.  This is a service that Countywide Disposal partners with the City to provide twice per year for their water/trash service customers.

Montrose Athletic Booster Club’s Kickin’ Chicken Fundraiser Dinner will be Sunday, October 17 from 11:00-2:00 (or until sold out) at Montrose High School. Curbside to go service ONLY.  $12 per plate includes Perryman’s fried chicken (choice of white or dark meat), cheesy mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, and chocolate sheet cake. Sorry NO Special Orders and NO children’s menu. Proceeds benefit all athletic teams at MHS.

Girl’s Day Out is scheduled for October 10, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Please come join the staff of Ellett Memorial Hospital for their 4th Annual Breast Cancer Wellness & Awareness Day. You can receive your pre-registered annual mammogram by Diagnostic Imaging Center Mobile Coach, win door prizes, gather information, local vendors, support others and recognize survivors. There will be Breast Cancer speakers sharing their life stories and talking about genetics and facts of Breast Cancer., A light lunch will be served and treats to indulge! Shirt orders will be taken until September 24.  Contact April Loney or Julee Snyder at EMH 660-476-2111 with questions on scheduling your mammogram or shirt questions. 

There will be a 4-H informational open house on Thursday, September 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the commons area of the Osceola High School. This will be a come and go event to provide information to families and individuals interested in 4-H. Come learn about what 4-H is really about – growing confident young people who are empowered for life today and prepared for career tomorrow. 4H programs empower nearly six million young people across the U.S. through experiences that develop critical life skills.

A fish fry benefit fundraiser for Stony Creek, Walnut and Shady Lawn Schools will be held 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. October 1 at the Fair Haven Park near Harwood, MO.  The menu includes fried fish and hush puppies, baked beans, cole slaw and homemade bread and butter.  Freshly cranked ice cream and homemade pies (baked by the community ladies) will be served for dessert.  Fair Haven Park is located on Hwy C, 8 miles north of Walker, MO

St. Clair Co Health Department reports 1104 positive cases and 21 current cases as of September 27. Appleton City has had 13 positive cases from August 23 to September 26.  More information is available at http://www.scchcmo.net/covid-2.html.

DbarJ Quilts etc., Rockville MO, is having a drawing for a patriotic quilt to be given to a veteran on Veteran’s Day. Any veteran can add their name, or have someone add your name to the drawing.  There is no cost to have your name in the drawing, as you have already paid the price. Just come to the quilt shop and sign your name and a phone number where you can be reached, or give the information to Marge Zink.

As winter approaches, proper nutritional and reproductive management will lead to optimum cattle operation productivity and profitability.   Therefore, MU Extension Livestock Specialists are working together to provide fall beef cattle producer management workshops on the evenings of October 21 in Stockton, Mo. (Stockton Christian Church Activity Center, 713 West St., Stockton, Mo. 65785) and October 28 in Nevada, Mo. (Vernon County Fairgrounds Centennial Hall, 1488 Ashland St., Nevada, Mo. 64772) beginning a 6:30 p. m. each evening. Workshops will cover winter cattle nutrition and reproduction management strategies. Topics covered by MU Extension Livestock Field Specialist will include: Cattle supplementation and nutritional management, Cattle reproductive management as fall calving cow breeding season approaches and Pros and cons of fall and or spring calving season.  Workshops are free to the public but please register by October 20 for the Stockton, Mo. workshop or by October 27 for the Nevada, Mo. workshop.  To register for the Stockton workshop, contact the Cedar County MU Extension Center at (417) 276-3313 or online at https://extension.missouri.edu/events/fall-beef-cattle-producers-workshop-stockton-mo.
