Halloween in the park is Sunday October 31.  All goblins need to show up for free hotdogs 5:00 – 6:30 with costume judging starting promptly at 5:30 p.m.  Age Groups are: 0-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13-up, followed by: Groups 3 or less and Groups 4 or more.  As in the past, girls will enter the stage from the north, boys & groups will enter from the south.  The GFWC-Jr. Achievers of Appleton City are proud to sponsor this event.

Church of God, 401 East 1st, Appleton City will have Trunk-or-Treat Halloween, October 31, 6:00 p.m. until treats are gone,  

First Christian Church will have hot dogs and fish pond treats starting at 6:00 p.m. at the shelter.

First Baptist Church will have Trunk or Treat 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. or until the treats are gone.

Ellett Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is sponsoring a Collective Goods Book Fair 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 28 in the Outpatient hallway.  There will be wide selection of books, gifts and useful gadgets for all ages.  It is open to everyone!  Get an early start on your Christmas.

The Trinity United Methodist Church will hold an “All Hallows Eve” Service on 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 30.  This will be a time to recognize family and friends who have passed before us.  Everyone is welcome.

Appleton City Landmarks Restoration and Museum will honor our area military Sunday, November 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Depot, by hosting Harry Truman impersonator, Kavin Shull.  He will tell stories of the Doughboys and personal experiences about World War I taken from Harry Truman’s book, Letters to Bess.

Ellett Memorial Hospital staff will serve a biscuit and gravy breakfast for all Veterans and their spouses in thanks for their service to our country on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in the EMH dining room. This is to honor those American Veterans for their bravery, sacrifice and love for their country. A table of honor will have pictures displayed for anyone wanting to recognize loved ones who served. 

AC Elementary PTO will sponsor a “Puzzle Race” Saturday, November 13 in the Elementary School Gym.  The price is $100 per team (of up to 5 players 10 years old and older).  The price includes participation and lunch – taco salad, dessert and drink.  (Non-participant lunches are available for $5.)  Lunch will be served from 12:30 – 1:30 and the puzzles start at 2:00 p.m.  There will be cash prizes for the first completed border, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams. Door prizes will be given throughout the race.  Please register by November 7.  To register, call or text Amanda Evans at 417-296-3239 or Katy Botka, Elementary School Principal, at 660-476-2108.  If you want to participate and don’t have a team, please contact them.  Registration payments can be made by check made out to the Appleton City Elementary PTO and dropped off at the AC Elementary School Office or by Venmo at Appletoncity-PTO or by PayPal at appletoncitypto@gmail.com.  If you can’t make it and want to make a donation, you can do so by any of the methods mentioned.  All proceeds benefit the children at AC Elementary School through the AC Elementary PTO. 

Montrose VFW Post #8820 will host a street dance and auction 8:30 p.m. October 29 at the old VFW lot.  Music will be provided by Sparrow Foot.  Costumes are welcome.  Cooler fees will be $5.00 – $10.00.  An auction will take place during the first break.  Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs.  Popcorn by Mama Kettle Corn and Paw’s Piggy Pops will be available.

AC Rural Health Clinic now has both the high dose flu Shot and the low dose flu shots. Low dose is Fluarix Quadrivalent and is for patients ages 6 month-65 yrs.  It is an inactivate influenza vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza virus sub types A & B, (H1N1)(H3N2). Contraindication is for persons allergic to egg proteins. High dose is Fluzone High Dose Quadrivalent  is for ages 65+ and is an inactive influenza vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza virus sub types A & B. (H1N1)(H3N2). Contraindication is for persons allergic to egg proteins. These are the recommendations for the 2021- 22 seasons.  Flu shots can be given without an appointment or provider visit. Call the clinic at 660-476-2121 with any questions. Please bring your Medicare or insurance card with you and they will file for insurance benefits.

The Haunted Walk scheduled for October 30, 2021 has been cancelled due to low registration signups.

The new 2021 St. Clair County Plat books are now available at City Hall for $30.00.

DbarJ Quilts etc., Rockville MO, is having a drawing for a patriotic quilt to be given to a veteran on Veteran’s Day. Any veteran can add their name, or have someone add your name to the drawing.  There is no cost to have your name in the drawing, as you have already paid the price. Just come to the quilt shop and sign your name and a phone number where you can be reached, or give the information to Marge Zink.
