AC Landmarks Restoration will honor our area military 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 7 at the Depot, by hosting Harry Truman impersonator, Kavin Shull. He will tell stories of the Doughboys and personal experiences about World War I taken from Harry Truman’s book, Letters to Bess.
St. Clair County Cattlemen’s Annual Meeting will be Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Top of the World Barn in Osceola, MO. The DJ will be Wired for Sound, Mark Stewart. Please RSVP to Lawanna Salmon at 660-492-7259 by Thursday, November 4th, 2021.
Ellett Memorial Hospital staff will serve a biscuit and gravy breakfast for all Veterans and their spouses in thanks for their service to our country on Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 11 from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in the EMH dining room. This is to honor those American Veterans for their bravery, sacrifice, and love for their country. A table of honor will have pictures displayed for anyone wanting to recognize loved ones who served.
AC Elementary PTO will sponsor a “Puzzle Race” Saturday, November 13 in the Elementary School Gym. The price is $100 per team (of up to 5 players 10 years old and older). The price includes participation and lunch – taco salad, dessert, and drink. (Non-participant lunches are available for $5.) Lunch will be served from 12:30 – 1:30 and the puzzles start at 2:00 p.m. There will be cash prizes for the first completed border, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams. If you want to participate and do not have a team, please contact them. Registration payments can be made by check made out to the Appleton City Elementary PTO and dropped off at the AC Elementary School Office or by Venmo at Appleton city-PTO or by PayPal at email@example.com. If you cannot make it and want to make a donation, you can do so by any of the methods mentioned. All proceeds benefit the children at AC Elementary School through the AC Elementary PTO.
The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, November 14 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you do not have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated
City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 11 for Veteran’s Day and Thursday November 25 and Friday November 26 for Thanksgiving.
The AC Public Library is conducting their Friends of the Best Sellers Program until November 20, 2021. The purpose is to fund the purchase of new hardback books for the library. You can become a friend by either choosing a book from the list or requesting another book you have wanted to read and then donating $20.00 for said book. The perks of being a Friend to the library are that you will be the first person to check the book out, you will have the opportunity to read other books purchased by Friends first and you will be honored by having your name placed on a special nameplate in the front of each of the Library Friend books. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
The first organizational meeting of a new 4-H club forming in St. Clair County will be Thursday, November 18, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church at 505 Walnut Street in Osceola. Everyone is welcome. Come and be part of a dynamic youth organization where youth have opportunities to gain leadership, citizenship, and life skills, all while having fun, making new friends and taking part in hands-on activities. Truman Lake Community Foundation Fall grant awards have been announced: AC Athletic Booster Inc. $3,000 for handicap accessible concrete sidewalks at athletic field complex; Living Waters Foundation $2,800 for a fall festival, Christmas from the heart, Blessings store, Grocery gift cards for K-12 students; Henry County Historical Society $1,416 for updating computers and a handheld scanner to catalog museum items; St. Ludger Fund for Historic Preservation $5,000 for tuck pointing and stained glass window maintenance; Clinton Main Street Inc. $5,000 for a Veteran banner program; Lily’s House $4,000 for four twin beds & bedding; Community of Christ Church $820 for two weather-resistant boxes for Blessing Box pantry and Lending Library replacements; Holy Rosary School $5,000 for laptops for teachers.
AC Rural Health Clinic now has both the high dose flu Shot and the low dose flu shots. Both are an inactivate influenza vaccine indicated for active immunization against influenza disease caused by influenza virus sub types A & B, (H1N1)(H3N2). Contraindication is for persons allergic to egg proteins. Low dose is Fluarix Quadrivalent for patients ages 6 month-65 yrs. High dose is Fluzone High Dose Quadrivalent for ages 65+. These are the recommendations for the 2021- 22 seasons. Flu shots can be given without an appointment or provider visit. Call the clinic at 660-476-2121 with any questions. Please bring your Medicare or insurance card with you and they will file for insurance benefits.
