The Appleton City Museum will open for its 19th summer season Friday, May 6 from 1:30-4:30. Visiting hours will be every Friday afternoon and the first Saturday of each month May through September. The location is 503 N. Maple, one block north of caution light. They hope you will make the museum a place to visit this year. Encourage children, family members and friends to step back into time at the Appleton City Museum.
The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, May 8 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Along with the usual pancakes and sausage, they will also serve eggs and hash browns. Treat the special women in your life your family to a hot Mother’s Day breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated
The ACHS Alumni Meeting and luncheon will be held Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 11:30. It will be a sack lunch for $12 per person. Reservations deadline is May 14. The “Holy Grounds” Bible Study will be 9:00 a.m. Saturday, May 7 at FIKA Coffee Shop. Everyone is welcome to attend.
AC PTO is collecting Food Fair receipts and Best Choice UPC labels May 11. Food Fair receipts need to be from January 1 – April 30, 2022. If they are older, they cannot be submitted. Please send them with students or place them in a plastic bag or envelope and drop them off in the Elementary School Office, St. Clair County State Bank with Janet Payton or Little Apples Learning Center by Friday, May 11. This on-going fundraiser raises a substantial amount of money for PTO to use for the children’s classroom trips and teacher requests for supplies.
In order for the people in this area to meet with each other and establish a social club, “The Appleton City Over 50 Social Club” will meet at noon Wednesday, May 18 the Social Hall of United Trinity Methodist Church at 214 E. 3rd St. An organizational meeting will follow with a focus on promoting community, friendship and outside activities. Volunteers are needed for the Yellow Rose Day at the Appleton City Cemetery. After numerous years of service founder, Dean Ellis, is passing the torch of the Yellow Rose Day to the residents of the Appleton City area so your support is needed in placing the over 2000 yellow silk rosebuds on the oldest graves in the Appleton City Cemetery in time for Memorial Day. Roses will be placed on Monday, May 23, 2022 at 9:00 a.m., with a rain date of Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. All individuals, families, clubs or groups are welcome. Hudson R-IX Elementary will hold their annual kindergarten screening on Monday, May 16. Please call the school at (660) 476-5467 to set up an appointment. You will need your child’s social security card, birth certificate, and current immunization record. If you call and the school office is closed, please leave a message and they will get back to you.
The Appleton City Public Library is conducting their Friends of the Best Sellers Program until May 19, 2022. The program’s purpose is to fund the purchase of new hardback books for the library. You can become a friend by either choosing a book from the list or requesting another book you’ve wanted to read and then donating $20.00 for said book. The perks of being a Friend to the library are that you will be the first person to check the book out, and you will be honored by having your name placed on a special nameplate in the front of each of the Library Friend books. Library hours are Mondays and Thursdays, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
The Appleton City Class of ’82 will be celebrating their 40th reunion at noon June 4, 2022, at the Chris Green home, 1464 SE County Road 15305, Appleton City. Bring a side to share at lunch. Meat, tableware and water will be provided.

An on-line class will be held 7:00 p.m. May 10 to discuss summer alfalfa insects. MU Extension Agronomy Field Specialist, Pat Miller, will cover these potential insect problems in alfalfa and how to scout for them: potato leaf hoppers, cowpea aphids, caterpillars, and blister beetles.
