The boil order for AC (following the water tower repairs) was lifted Tuesday, June 7. They recommend flushing the plumbing in your home or business by running all cold water faucets for at least 5 minutes each. You should also flush all appliances connected to the water line, like refrigerators and dishwashers.
The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God will be 7:00 a.m. Saturday, June 11. All the men of the community are invited to join them for a time of great food and fellowship. Jerrell Fischer will have a short devotional.
The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, June 12 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated
The Appleton City FBLA chapter will have a Pulled Pork Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, June 25 in the high school commons from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. The meal will include pulled pork, baked potato, baked beans, dessert, and a drink. Carryout options will be available as well. The cost will be $12.00. There will also be a 50/50 drawing. The winner will be announced at 8:00 p.m. You need not be present to win. Donations are appreciated. This is to help with the expenses of the National FBLA contest in Chicago they will be attending from June 28 to July 3. They are very proud of the student’s success at the State FBLA contest and wish them success at the National FBLA contest. They thank the community for their support throughout the year and for their continued support as they embark on their journey to the National Contest. A summer kid’s event, “Monumental VBS”, will be hosted at First Baptist Church of AC June 21-24. Monumental is for kids 5 years old through those that have completed 4th grade. They will start with a meal at 5:30 and conclude at 8:30 p.m. each evening. Family members and friends can join in daily at 8:15 p.m. as they wrap up their day. They also invite families to church on Sunday June 26 for the finale and a meal following services. Five area churches are teaming together to present a community VBS 6:00-8:00 p.m. each evening July 18-22. All kids ages 3 years- 6th grade are invited to join them as they learn how to pray. (Children must be potty-trained to attend). Each church will host an evening: Trinity UMC – Monday, Rockville UMC – Tuesday, Church of God – Wednesday, River of Life – Thursday, Christian Church – Friday. Transportation is available. This summer, MU Extension will hold two free conferences on native grass management: July 12 at the MU Southwest Research, Extension and Education Center near Mount Vernon and July 14 near Linneus at Cornett Farm, part of the MU Northern Missouri Research, Extension and Education Center. The conferences are being held in partnership with the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Topics include managing native grasses for grazing and haying, updated economic budgets that producers will find useful, cost-share opportunities and the conservation benefits of native grasses. There is no registration fee and lunch will be provided, but participants need to register for either program at bit.ly/3yPfX4n. A sheep and goat parasite management workshop will be held June 27 in Mount Vernon, Mo. Preregistration is required by June 23. Parasite management is important for a productive and profitable sheep and goat operation. Therefore, MU Extension will be providing a hands-on sheep and goat parasite management workshop on June 27 at 5:00 p. m. at the SW Mo. MU Research, Extension and Education Center located at 14548 State Road H, Mount Vernon, Mo. This workshop will discuss monitoring and controlling internal and external parasites which are key to optimum sheep and goat operation health, production and profitability. Specific topics discussed by MU Extension livestock and ag business specialists include:
Internal and external parasite management, 5-point check health monitoring system and Financial and production implications of parasite management. Cost of the workshop is $25 per person, which includes a meal that will be served during the workshop.
