There is a need in the Appleton City community (including Montrose and Rockville) to establish a “community organization” focused on meeting and enjoying activities with others the area. Trinity United Methodist Church at 214 E. 3rd St, is offering their social hall for a meeting place to establish an “Over 50 Club”.  They plan to meet Wednesday, June 29 at noon. They will not be checking birth certificates, so if you are looking for a little more social interaction, please join them or call so they can keep you informed.  Free sandwiches will be served for lunch and if you would like, please bring a dessert or salad to share.  For more information or to let Stephanie know you are bringing something, please call 660-207-2423.

The Appleton City Car Show will be Saturday, July 9 at the City Park.  Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. This is a judged event with prizes for the top 70 cars and trucks combined, top 3 motorcycles and top 3 rat rods. There will be lots of shade and an air-conditioned building with food available. Local organizations will be offering biscuits and gravy during the early morning, followed by ice cream and cobbler closer to noon time. Also the local Optimist Club will have food inside the brick building.

The Appleton City Public Library is having their Summer Reading Program, Oceans of Possibilities! The program will take place on Thursdays in July (7, 14, 21 and 28) at 10:00 a.m. Kids 10 and under are welcome. Please come in and sign up at the library during normal business hours, call them at 660-476-5513, or email them acmolibrary@gmail.com so they can make sure they have something for everyone!

Trinity United Methodist Church will hold a Back to School Clothing Give-A-Way August 22. They will accept donations suitable for school age children (K-12).  This is an advance notice, so when you are pulling out those outgrown items, you’ll have a place for them to go.  Items may be dropped off at the church August 15 – 19.

The Ellett Memorial Foundation Board is raffling off a Stihl RE 110 Plus Electric Pressure Washer. The drawing will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at the Appleton City Car Show. Tickets are $10 each or 2 for $15.  See any Foundation Member or get your tickets at Ellett Memorial Hospital. Five area churches are teaming together to present a community VBS 6:00-8:00 p.m. each evening July 18-22. All kids ages 3 years- 6th grade are invited to join them as they learn how to pray. (Children must be potty-trained to attend). Each church will host an evening: Trinity UMC – Monday, Rockville UMC – Tuesday, Church of God – Wednesday, River of Life – Thursday, Christian Church – Friday. Transportation is available. The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, July 10 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m.  Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up.  A free will donation will be greatly appreciated

Free private tennis lessons are offered to all current or former players and anyone who want to improve their technique or strategies or first time players.   People of almost any age and skills can learn to play tennis.  Lessons are held at the tennis courts at Donnohue-Dugan Park.  Rackets and balls will be provided.  To set up appointments for your private lessons or if you have questions, call Dennis Dunham at 476-2151 or 476-5514 or Tommy Payton at 816-863-6624. Open tennis is every day 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tennis is exercise that is fun!
