The AC Fair is August 11-13. The 2022 Scavenger Hunt will take place Thursday. Rules and forms will be announced on Stage at 7:00 Thursday night. Food options nightly will be hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, pulled pork; tacos Thursday and Friday and steak Friday. Other activities include Dance Class sign up and the Dunk Tank. There will be free nightly entertainment as well as Show-Me Amusements Carnival, a Photo Exhibit inside Park Building and a variety of Children’s activities on Saturday. Additional vendors in the Park for the AC Fair will be AC Booster Club raffle of Chief’s pre-season tickets and 2 night stay Stockton cabins, AC Fire Department raffle for a grill and cooler, Shelley Bales Face Painting Friday, Just a Mooody1 selling tumblers, earrings and car fresheners. SQC reduced souvenirs are available Friday. Armbands are $15 till noon Thursday at Powell’s True Value and Food Fair. They will be $25 at the Park. The Carnival would like to hire workers to operate the rides, take tickets, and work in food concession for up to $15/hr. You must be at least 16 years of age. The monthly Men’s Fellowship Breakfast at the Appleton City Church of God will be 7:00 a.m. Saturday August 13. All the men of the community are invited to join them for a time of great food and fellowship. Jack Coultas, Pastor of Park Grove Christian Church, will have a short devotional.
The Knights of Columbus will have their monthly pancake and sausage breakfast at the Knight’s Hall in Montrose on Sunday, August 14 from 8:30 – 10:00 a.m. Treat your family to a hot breakfast you don’t have to cook or clean up. A free will donation will be greatly appreciated
A Taco Salad Lunch will be served at the Railroad Depot, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17. All toppings, desserts of homemade cakes and drinks will be served for $8. Dine in or carry outs available. The lunch will be served by AC Landmarks Restoration, with profits helping to maintain the Museum, Moore School, MKT Depot and the original 1870 Appleton City Library.
Appleton City K-12 Back to School Bash and Open House will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 18 on the baseball field. Join the teachers and staff in a fun filled evening. Enjoy a hotdog and snow cone while filling out your students’ school registration forms. Watch the kids play on the bounce house, obstacle course and outdoor games. Take pictures while using photo props and meet your child’s teacher. Call 660-476-2161 for info.
Hudson R-IX will host a “Come and Go” Back-to-School Night 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23. You may come and meet your teacher, see your classroom, drop off supplies and paperwork and pick up your enrollment packets.

The Truman Lake Community Foundation Grantmaking Program Fall 2022 Application cycle opens August 1, 2022. AC Schools registration: Elementary: New students to the district may make an appointment to enroll by calling the Elementary office at 660-476-2161. They have openings this week and next week. For any returning students, registration materials will be sent home the first day of school and can be returned the next day. JH/HS: Both returning and new students may come enroll during their enrollment time/date. Enrollment for Seniors will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12. Juniors will register from 1:00-3:00 on Friday, August 12. Sophomore registration will be from 9:00-11:00 on August 16 and enrollment for Freshman will be from 1:00-3:00 on August 16. Schedule changes can be completed during this time. Junior High students will register from 5:00-7:00 at the Back-To-School Fair. There will be a table set up with registration forms. MU Extension agronomy, livestock, and ag business specialists are collaborating to provide a meeting to discuss forage and cattle management strategies to help cattle operations following the drought. This meeting will be August 22 and begin at 12:30 p. m. at the Centennial Hall at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, 1488 East Ashland Street, Nevada, MO 64772. Topics being covered include: Hay Quality Assessment and Cattle Feeding Strategies, Assessing the Price of Stored Forages and Market Outlook, Cattle herd management related to Nitrate and Prussic Acid
Cattle herd management through culling and early weaning and Fall Forage Alternatives. This meeting is free to participants but registration is required by August 19.
