City Hall will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 26 – 27 for Thanksgiving.

Trash pick up the week of Thanksgiving will be on Friday morning November 27. Please have your trash carts to the curb no later than 7:00 a.m.

Due to the ever-evolving changes in the current COVID situation, the Montrose Athletic Booster Club’s Kickin’ Chicken Fundraiser Dinner will be postponed until a later date to be announced in the future.

December 5, Appleton City Landmarks Restoration will celebrate Christmas in the County with a Craft Show in the M.K.T, Depot.  Your favorite crafters will be present 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 to open the Christmas season. Tammy Rapp & Julie Cooper will have an assortment of candies, Jina Hill with repurposed items, Christmas wreaths & arrangements plus other items, Tom Holt with his wood creations, Margie Siegismund’s handmade rugs and Mary Miller’s Sunrise Bakery pies, breads, noodles & candies. A. C. Landmarks will have the 2020 150th History book, the A.C. Journal Bits and Pieces books, plus other AC souvenir items.

Due to the recent increase in COVID cases within Appleton City, as well as St. Clair County and surrounding counties, it has been decided to postpone the annual Hudson Hustler’s 4-H Baked Potato Bar, which was due to be held on Saturday, December 5. It has also been decided to cancel the annual PTO Holiday Shopping Extravaganza due to be held on Saturday, December 5.  The PTO will also NOT be collecting any more Christmas decorations this year. There WILL be a Christmas parade. The theme is ‘A Very COVID Christmas!’ It will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Forest Park.  Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles and wear Christmas themed masks.  There will be a small prize for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.  The parade will end back at Forest Park and feature the annual lighting of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree – to take place at approximately 4:50 p.m.

Appleton City High School will sponsor a drive through Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner December 9, 2020. With COVID precautions in place, ACHS wants to keep tradition alive for their annual Senior Citizen Christmas Dinner. Come through the circle drive to get a to-go traditional Christmas meal from the ACHS students. Meals will start being served at noon. Please RSVP to 660-476-2161 by November 27.

Ellett Memorial Hospital in AC offers outpatient specialist services for November. Call 660-476-2111 for appointments: Nov 18 -Upper GI, Colonoscopy-Dr. Namin, Nov 25– Ortho-Dr. Gray.       

FarmHouse Kitchen and Sumo’s Pub will be closed November 26 through November 30.  They will open for normal hours December 1.

Sesquicentennial Military storyboard examples are up in old grocery store window. You can make a board about Military members who have lived within 15 miles of AC.  It is a great way to honor family, neighbors and friends. There will be an open exhibit during the SQC event during the summer of 2021 to display boards, items, or even in person. Storyboards can tell about your family member.  You can share pictures of them on leave, show letters sent home or received, or any number of things.  Bill Gilmore is event chairman or you can contact Linda Lampkin for more details.  The hope is the room where the exhibition will take place will be filled with stories of what our area people did while they were in service.

University of Missouri Extension offers a one-evening Zoom class on horse nutrition on December 3. Proper nutrition is vital to the 85,000 head of horses and ponies owned by Missouri residents.  As well as bringing enjoyment to its owners, Missouri’s horse industry contributes significantly to the economic health of the state, through activities such as trail rides, rodeos, races, show competitions, and hunting. MU Extension agronomist Pat Miller will cover establishment, grazing and management of forages. Extension livestock field specialist Elizabeth Pickering will focus on forage quality, hay needs and testing, and feeding strategies. Marci Crosby, MU Equine program coordinator will give an overview of equine nutrition and strategies for grain selection. The class begins at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 3. Donations are needed to help continue the publication of “The Little Apple”.  This free newsletter began in the fall of 1993 and celebrated its 27th anniversary October 27.  Many people, businesses and organizations put forth a lot of effort to see that it is distributed each week.  Cash and/or copy paper donations are now needed to obtain the paper it is printed on.  If you able, please drop off copy paper or send a contribution to The Little Apple Account, c/o Community First Bank, 214 W. 4th, Appleton City, MO 64724.  Thank you.
