AC’s Biggest Tailgate Party celebrating Friday Night Lights will be Friday, August 30, 2019. The event celebrates the new Bulldog Football Field and the hard work of the community. The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. The game against Rich Hill begins at 7:30 p.m. There will be food, fun, games, and a lot of pride in Bulldog Country. Join them for the evening as they dedicate the new football field and recognize the 1984 Bulldog football team on their 35th anniversary of finishing 2nd in the State!
West Central In-home Services will offer a Nail Clinic August 29, 2019 at two locations: North Beech Apartments, 515 N Beech Street, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. and Appleton Estates, 300 S Beech Street, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. The cost is $10.00 and the public is invited. Services include: foot soak, nail trim (done by a nurse if diabetic), lotion and massage, foot inspections (by a nurse) for diabetics and free blood glucose checks! The event is brought to you by West Central Missouri Community Action Agency In-Home Health Services and Kreisler Country Pharmacy.
The Annual Labor Day Picnic at Immaculate Conception Parish (Montrose) will be Monday, September 2. Come for a great tasting fried chicken dinner served from 11:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Dinner and raffle ticket sales open at 9:00 a.m. The menu includes fried chicken, mashed potatoes & gravy, dressing, green beans, slaw, bread & butter pickles, homemade pie, and drink. $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-10 and free for children under 5. The dine-in dinner is served family style with outdoor dining and carryout available. There is a huge country store from 8:00 – 3:30 p.m. The corn box and corn hole at 10:00 a.m. and cakewalk and Bingo at 11:00 a.m. Homemade pie auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the raffles.
AC VFW Post 11242 is serving spaghetti for dinner at 6:30 p.m. on September 5, 2019. The post is inviting all veterans and their family to the dinner. The meal is free. The post puts on a dinner with desserts and drinks for free once a month at the First Christian Church 100 Walnut Appleton City, Mo. If interested, ask how you can become a member of the post to help your veterans local and afar. They help all soldiers as well.
Community Blood Center/Appleton City High School Blood Drive will take place 1:00 – 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, in the East Gym (408 W. 4th St). The A.C. Fall City Wide Garage Sale dates will be September 20-21. Permits are $5 and can be purchased at City Hall September 9 through noon on September 18. Permits to set up in the A.C. Park are $25 for the pole shelter, $15 for the stage, $10 for a lawn permit and that price covers both days. Park permits are also available at City Hall and are sold on a first come, first served basis. Maps will be available at Food Fair, Powell’s True Value and Casey’s beginning Thursday afternoon. House of Joy Ministry will be at the City Park on Saturday from 4:00-5:00 to pick up donations. If you have questions, please call Dianne Foster at 476-2390.
On Saturday, September 7 at dark (about 8:15 p.m.), the AC Museum will show “Colorado” (which was cancelled earlier due to weather). It is a cowboy movie from 1941 starting Roy Rogers, featuring bit parts of actor, Vester Pegg, a native son born in A.C. in 1887. Bring a lawn chair and join them for an “Evening Under the Stars”. Parking is available on the street. Snacks will be available.
The AC Library has become a Dolly Parton Imagination Library affiliate. That means brand new free age-appropriate books will be available for local children ages birth until they turn 5. Sign up is easy. Just fill out a small form at the Library and books can be chosen to fit your children’s age that will start coming to your mailbox once a month. Ellett Memorial Hospital Girl’s Day Out will be noon-5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019. Please come join them for their 2nd Annual Breast Cancer Wellness & Awareness Day. Receive your pre-registered annual mammogram by Diagnostic Imaging Center Mobile Coach, win prizes, gather information, support others, and recognize survivors. There will be Breast Cancer speakers sharing their life stories, talking about genetics and facts of Breast Cancer. A light lunch will be served and treats will be available to indulge. If you or someone you know is a Breast Cancer survivor, please let them know who and how long, so that they may recognize them and celebrate.
