Who Get Grandma’s Yellow Pie Pan

Care Connection

Sometimes the most important conversations can be the most difficult to begin. Care Connection for Aging Services is offering a Zoom session to give families the tools to decide who gets personal possessions when someone dies.

The session, “Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate,” offers an organized approach to planning ahead for making difficult decisions. The free Zoom workshop is scheduled for noon on March 24.

While a formal written will addresses possessions such as financial wealth and one’s home, the document rarely dictates who gets a favorite book, a treasured blanket, the second-hand crib where all the grandchildren slept on overnights – or Grandma’s yellow pie plate.

The session is recommended for older adults and caregivers who are  planning ahead or those who are trying to make decisions after a loved one has died.

The workshop can help families:

–Understand the sensitivity of the issues.

–Determine what they want to accomplish.

–Decide what’s fair for their family.

–Understand that belongings have different meanings to different people.

–Consider distribution options and consequences.

–Agree to manage conflicts if they arise.

“Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate” is presented in cooperation with the University of Minnesota Extension, where the program was developed.
