Yet Another Phone Scam Cropping up in the Area

social security

The FM 92 news staff has been notified by a listener in Butler regarding a suspicious phone call she received from someone claiming to be from the Social Security Office.

The caller threatened to revoke her social security card if she did not comply. While these calls can be frightening or intimidating, know that the Social Security Office does NOT operate in this manner. The Division of Social Security will always contact you via mail, they do not call you at your home to address issues or concerns.

If you receive a phone call like this it’s best to hang up. If you’re worried that there is a genuine issue, you can call the Social Security office by using their phone number that is listed in the government section of your phone book to inquire if there’s a problem.
